Can Wix host my WordPress website?

No, Wix can’t host WordPress. WordPress can only be hosted on servers that can run PHP and MySQL. Wix uses a different platform and doesn’t support this software.

Can I move my WordPress website to Wix?

No, you can’t move your WordPress website to Wix. You would need to export your content from WordPress and import it into Wix.

However, this is not recommended as it can be complicated and time consuming.

There are other ways you can move the content of your WordPress website over to Wix, which I will get into more below in this post.

Can I install WordPress on my Wix website?

No, you can’t install WordPress on your Wix site. If you want to change your CMS platform you would need to re-create the site with a different CMS or export & import your content into another one.

Wix does not have the ability to update your site with WP-Admin or manage comments, users, widgets, plugins etc because it’s not supported by Wix.

Can a Wix website be hosted elsewhere?

No, a Wix website can only be fully hosted on the Wix hosting platform.

The hosting platform for all Wix websites is provided by the Wix company. This means that if you have a question about your Wix website, you will need to contact them directly.

It’s also not possible to host a fully functional version of your Wix website elsewhere.

This also means that any technical changes or updates to a Wix website will have to be completed through the Wix website builder, only available on the Wix platform.

However, there may be the option to transfer all of your websites and hosting needs over to another web host in the future.

This is not always guaranteed though and it is not something that you should count on doing at a later date.

Is Wix easier to use than WordPress?

At first, for an absolute beginner, yes. But when you are beyond the basics, I see no reason to choose Wix.

You may start out nicely using a free Wix website on their shared business hosting platform.

However, you will soon outgrow that and want to add some special plugins, themes, faster page loading speeds, etc.

None of those will work out well with Wix. Even a Google Translate plugin for changing a language on your site might cause you a little trouble.

Even if you only have just a little HTML and CSS knowledge, but no PHP skills, you will still be much better off starting out using WordPress as a platform than Wix.

Even if you still have a small website with almost no traffic, WordPress would work well for you in the long run.

Many things are done differently in WordPress compared to Wix. But, then again, it’s mostly a matter of preferences.

How do I add WordPress to Wix?

The only way you can realistically add WordPress is to link to it. You can link your WordPress website to a Wix website in the same manner that one domain links to another.

You can also download this plugin, “Domain Mapping System” and then enter the domain of your Wix website.

Click “Save Changes” and you should be redirected to the Wix website. You will need to log into your Wix account and confirm the link before it takes effect.

Once it is confirmed, you will be able to access your WordPress website and manage it from within the Wix platform. You can also use the same plugin to map additional domains to your Wix website.

There are a few other plugins that allow for similar functionality, but this is the most reliable option.

There is no other way to add WordPress CMS to Wix websites as their coding is entirely different and incompatible.

Why you should not use Wix.

There are a few reasons why you should not use Wix.

First, Wix is not a true website builder. It is more of a template-based platform that gives you a limited number of templates to choose from.

Second, Wix does not offer enough customization options. You cannot change the underlying code, which means you are restricted to the features and functions that Wix makes available to you.

If these reasons do not convince you, then consider this: When Wix went public in November 2017, it failed to meet analysts expectations, which caused its stock price to take a dive.

In addition, when WordPress released a much awaited website builder update in December 2017, Wix was also left behind.

WordPress offers a lot more customization options and is much easier to use than Wix.

So, if you are looking for a true website builder with lots of customization options and the freedom to host it anywhere you like, then you should not use Wix.

Instead, consider WordPress, the most popular CMS on the planet, powering over 40% of all websites on the web today.

How do I transfer my domain from Wix to WordPress?

You will need to take your domain off of Wix and redirect your domain’s name servers either to your WordPress.com account (if you are going to have WordPress host your WordPress site) or if you are going to self-host your WordPress site, you will need to redirect your domain’s name servers to your Self-Hosting Provider.

You can also use a plugin like, “CMS2CMS”. CMS2CMS is a free plugin that allows you to transfer content from one CMS to another. It currently supports WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Magento.

Once you have redirected your domain’s name servers, or installed the CMS2CMS plugin, you will need to export your content from Wix. Wix has an “Export” button that you can use to export your content.

When you have exported your content, you will need to import it into WordPress. WordPress has an “Import” button that you can use to import your content.

Is there a Wix to WordPress migration plugin?

Yes, the CMS2CMS Connector is a WordPress migration plugin, mentioned above, that is designed to migrate your Wix site to WordPress or any other CMS to another CMS.

However, The premium version of CMS2CMS WordPress migration plugin supports a fully automated migration of your Wix website and other extra features.

This plugin normally works quite well on its own. Especially, if you are already familiar with how website hosting works, transfering files, working within cPanel, etc.

However, there are some special case sites which may require some manual effort by the CMS2CMS support team. Again, this is only available in their premium version.

Can Wix export blog posts?

Many people want to automatically export their blog posts from Wix to WordPress, but the built in Wix exporter gives you limited customization.

Here are a couple of articles which can go into more detail on how you can export blog posts from Wix.

Can Wix host my WordPress website? Summary.

Truth be told, Wix really can’t host your WordPress website.

The closest you can get is choosing a Wix theme that resembles your current WordPress theme and exporting all your current WordPress website’s files, either manually or through the use of the plugins mentioned above.

This will, of course, require more than just a few clicks.

Therefore, it’s important to know what type of site you’re running before jumping into any decisions of moving your site from WordPress over to a company like Wix!
