I hate Wix. The disadvantages of Wix.

Here’s a quick rundown of why I hate Wix as well as the disadvantages of choosing Wix as your website CMS:

  • You can’t switch Templates.
  • Wix branding is mandatory on all free sites.
  • No tracking and analytics on the Wix free plan, however, you can get tracking and analytics a paid Wix plan.
  • Closed source and proprietary coding meaning your website isn’t transferrable for self hosting.
  • Prices are pretty steep for Premium Plans since they are priced per site.
  • No unlimited plans.
  • Drag and drop only designs.
  • Wix sites aren’t mobile responsive by default.
  • Difficult to migrate content, images and other data if you want to change to a CMS like WordPress.
  • Limited features, no third party plugins.
  • You’re stuck with their Hosting and Customer service. Can’t move.
  • Menu issues, difficult to navigate.
  • Not great for larger websites, over 40 pages.

In this post, I’ll talk about my personal experience with Wix.com and the disadvantages of using it as a website service.

I first came across Wix when they advertised on TV for their new site builder service. They had a catchy slogan that said “Wix is so easy even your grandma could do it.”

It was at that moment I realized how corny these guys were being by targeting an older demographic who might not be up to date on technology trends like myself.

Immediately after watching the commercial, I went online and found out more information about Wix and what they offered as far as features go…

When you put in your email address to create an account, they immediately start sending promo emails to you which to me was a good sign because it shows they are really trying to market their product.

I spent about 10 minutes checking out the different website templates and all of the features but I couldn’t find an actual list of everything they offered.

I finally came across their site map which listed most of what Wix had to offer, but not every single detail.

When I actually created a free account, it only allowed me to have one page for my website and no custom domain name.

This was extremely discouraging so I decided to forget about Wix….

1 day later, they sent me ANOTHER promo email with 40% off your first year’s subscription which was the icing on the cake.

I decided to immediately create my account and try Wix out for myself.

The templates are pretty nice looking but they only offer one free domain name which is “.WIX.”

After I tried it out, I realized that you cannot even use HTML code on your page unless you upgrade to the paid version of their website builder.

This is when I knew Wix was bogus.

Wix also has too many ads everywhere, which is annoying.

If you do decide to purchase their website builder, you cannot cancel your subscription for at least 30 days without getting charged the full price of $30/month even if you don’t use it.

I hate Wix! The disadvantages of Wix. FAQs.

Why do people not like Wix?

People dislike Wix because it can be difficult to use, the selection of layouts are limited compared to other CMS platforms like WordPress, the layouts are unattractive, and making a site feel professional is time-consuming.

With other site builders you don’t have these problems.

Why do Web Developers hate Wix?

There are a few reasons why web developers might not like Wix. Firstly, Wix can be challenging for absolute beginners who especially may need the help of support and customer service to set up their websites.

Secondly, the templates offered by Wix are often unattractive and not very professional-looking.

Finally, it can be difficult to make your website look exactly how you want it to using Wix. Wix is not as customizable as other website builders, which can be frustrating for some users.

Do large companies use Wix?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as different large companies will have different needs and preferences when it comes to website builders.

However, Wix is a popular website builder among small businesses and startups, and it is likely that some larger companies may also use Wix for their websites.

Can Wix handle high traffic?

Different website builders handle traffic in different ways. However, Wix is a popular website builder and is likely to be able to handle high traffic volumes if needed.

Although Wix does not have any built-in caching or performance optimization features, which can also hurt your website’s performance.

What are the alternatives to Wix?

There are many alternatives to Wix. For example, WordPress is a good alternative because it is customizable, has thousands of free themes available, and can handle high traffic levels if needed. But most of all WordPress is open source.

Does Wix own your content?

Wix does not own your content. You retain all rights to the content you create using Wix.

What happens if Wix goes out of business?

If Wix were to go out of business, your website would go down with it. Wix is a hosted platform, which means that all of your website data is stored on Wix’s servers. If Wix were to shut down, you would lose all of your website data.

Wix and SEO.

Wix, for most people who just want a few pages to act as a business card on the web for their small business, setting up a Wix website is not a big deal.

But for SEOs and digital marketers it can be a nightmare. This isn’t just my opinion either. I’ve seen the complaints across the web about how difficult it is to work with Wix websites.

Ranking Factors.

On-page SEO is vital for websites. It’s one of the most important factors Google uses to rank your website.

Wix doesn’t make it easy to optimize your on-page SEO, there are some problems I’ve noticed with their platform that may or may not hurt search engine optimization:

Some websites built using Wix will not get good search engine rankings.

This can be a problem because it could mean that people who use Google to find your products or services will never see them.

Fortunately, there are some things you can do if this is a problem for you too. You can add an SEO service to your website building plan.

You can also insert keywords into your content, which will help it get better search engine rankings.

Is a Wix website worth it?

That depends on your needs and budget. Wix is more affordable than most other website builders, but it does not have as many features.

If you’re looking for a basic website and don’t need a lot of bells and whistles, Wix is a good option.

If you need more features or want a more custom website, you may be better off using a different builder.

Can you sell off a Wix website?

Whether you can sell off a Wix website depends on the situation. If you’re not happy with your Wix website and would like to sell it, you can list it for sale on websites like Flippa, FE International, Empire Flippers or MotionInvest.

However, be aware that there may be some restrictions on what you can do with a Wix website once you’ve sold it.

For example, the new owner may not be able to transfer the website to another hosting provider, since a Wix website can only be hosted on the Wix hosting platform.

Is Wix good for small business?

As mentioned above, small businesses can benefit from Wix’s low cost and ease of use.

However, Wix does not have as many features as some of the other options available.

Additionally, Wix websites may not rank as well in search engines as some of the other options.

If you’re looking for a website builder that is easy to use and affordable though, Wix could be a good option for you.

I hate Wix, the disadvantages of Wix, conclusion.

For the reasons listed above, I don’t recommend using Wix. It isn’t as user-friendly or affordable and it doesn’t have nearly enough features to justify its price tag.

If you’re looking for a website builder that is easy to use but has more advanced features than basic ones, there are plenty of other options available.

If you want to build a website that ranks better in search engines, there are other options available.

If you’re looking for an affordable website builder with basic features, Wix is a good option for you.

However, if you need more advanced features or would like to have your website rank in search engines better than the average site, there are better options available.
