Does WordPress have a sticky image plugin?
Unfortunately, WordPress does not have a sticky image plugin. However, WordPress does have several plugins which can create a sticky image for your WordPress website.
In this post I will list those plugins that can help you create a sticky image in WordPress.
I will also attempt to answer some questions regarding sticky images In WordPress and how you can make them by using the various plugins or give you some options you can try using CSS.
Finally, I hope to answer some troubleshooting questions about how to make a sticky image in WordPress by using one of the plugins and also some possible workarounds when your image isn’t behaving properly.
What is a sticky image and why would you need one?
A sticky image is when you make one of the images on your WordPress post or page stay in one position while the user or page viewer is scrolling up or down until a pre-given offset position is made in the viewport.
When this happens the position of the image then sticks. So for example, if you have an image that you want to move as the visitor scrolls, it will move. It can also stop moving or “sticking” at preset positions on the page. For example, above or below a certain paragraph.
However, sometimes these sticky scrolling images can be quite annoying, so at one point or another you may want the image to just stick or stop at a certain level in the page or position.
In addition, you may want to have a sticky image in your WordPress post or page or website that is a banner.
Perhaps there’s a product or service that is best illustrated as an image that you’re trying to promote. You would want that image to be sticky so it encourages the user to click on it. This click could either bring the user to an opt-in or an affiliate page for example.
How do I make an image sticky in WordPress with a plugin?
The easiest way of course to make an image sticky in WordPress is to use a plugin.
However, as I’ve mentioned above there are no specific WordPress plugins for just “sticky images”.
There are plugins to make elements like headers, footers and menus as well as images sticky in WordPress though.
Here are the top three WordPress plugins that can help you make a sticky image:
- Sticky Menu, Sticky Header (or anything!) on Scroll.
- Advanced Floating Content.
- Q2W3 Fixed Widget for WordPress.
The above plugins only work on existing elements/images. So first you have to insert the image into the page and then make it sticky.
To do this you can simply add an image to a page or post, give it an ID and then target it with the plugin of your choice.
You can also add the image to the header/footer elements to do the same things. There are a lot of plugins that add content to the header or footer for example. Here are 4 plugins that can help you add content to your header or footer:
Can I make multiple image elements sticky?
Yes, you can make multiple image elements as well as other elements sticky and WordPress.
However, in order to do this you may have to pay for the pro or premium version of the sticky plugin in order to use it on multiple image elements and pages/posts in WordPress.
Once the Image becomes sticky, there’s a brief moment where you see it twice.
This can sometimes happen if your WordPress post or page loads slower or is delayed in the browser.
Is it possible to have multiple Sticky Images?
You can have multiple stick images by using one of the WordPress plugins above.
However once again, you may only be able to do so in their pro or premium versions of the plugin. You can of course use CSS to accomplish the same thing though.
W3schools.com has some tutorials on how you can do that:
Sticky Image WordPress plugin troubleshooting tips.
First check to see that your theme is compatible with the plugin. This may be seen obvious, but some themes don’t play nicely with certain plugins.
Next, you’ll want to make sure that you have no other plugins that may conflict with the sticky plugin that you’ve just installed.
You can do this by deactivating the particular plugin you’ve just installed and try one of the other sticky plugins that I have suggested above.
If you want to make an image sticky without a plugin then you might want to add some CSS to your theme.
Here are two links to tutorials on w3schools.com that may help you in regards to making a sticky image in CSS.
“How TO – Parallax Scrolling” and “How to make an Image Sticky with CSS.”
Remember, images are considered elements in WordPress, so they need to be treated as such. The same as you would header, footer and menu elements, etc. in regards to how they are positioned on a page or post.
Sticky Image WordPress plugin, summary.
As you can see making a sticky image in WordPress using a plugin is certainly doable.
In fact, I’ve given you three of the best WordPress plugins that can not only help you make it an image sticky in WordPress, but also a menu, header, footer etc.
If you are having trouble making an image sticky or if it’s causing your site to get a little buggy, then you should check to see if the plugin is compatible with not only your theme but with your other plugins as well.
Many times plugins don’t play nice with other plugins or themes. The only way to troubleshoot this would be to deactivate the plugin and see how your site behaves after.
Also you might want to try the other two plugins that can help you make an image sticky in WordPress. If you would like to make multiple images sticky in WordPress you may need to use the premium or pro versions of the plugins that I’ve listed above.
If you want to avoid plugins all together, then you’re going to have to get your hands dirty and do a little CSS. If you’re familiar with HTML and CSS and you know your theme very well, you should be able to do this quite easily.
The links above should be a good starting point, since they have the code and the examples of how they would look in a post.
So as you can see making an image sticky by using a WordPress plugin is not only very possible, but it’s quite common. That’s why the plugins were created.
So try out one of the plugins and if you have any difficulty, of course reach out to their support on either the WordPress plugin section or the developers of the plugin.
Most WordPress plugin developers of course have their own website and you can reach out to them there as well.
