Does free WordPress have ads?
Yes, all free WordPress.com blogs will contain ads. You also have no control over this as well. Although WordPress does screen the ads for adult and illegal content.
However, your site’s visitors may object to some ads for products and or political issues they may oppose. Again, you have virtually no control over what WordPress.com displays on your free WordPress blog.
The best way to minimize any potential offenses to your website’s visitors is to warn them in advance that you do not endorse any of the content from any ad that is displayed on your free WordPress blog.
Why does my free WordPress site have ads?
WordPress.com puts ads on your free WordPress site in order to help keep your free WordPress blog and site, free.
These ads help WordPress.com pay for hosting and other free features that you enjoy from having a free WordPress site from WordPress.com.
How do I get rid of ads on my free WordPress blog?
In order to get rid of the ads you will need to upgrade your free WordPress blog to one of WordPress.com’s paid plans or go to another web hosting provider.
By going to a WordPress.com paid plan or a private web host you can decide what exactly is shown on your WordPress website and what is not.
Can I monetize my free WordPress blog?
You can monetize your free WordPress blog either with affiliate products. Affiliate programs allow you to place links to various products or services in that program.
When one of your site’s visitors clicks onto one of those links, you receive a commission for every purchase of that product or service generated from that click.
You could also advertise your own products or services through your WordPress blog as well.
However, you cannot use a third party display advertiser like Google AdWords, Ezoic, Mediavine, etc on any free WordPress blog through WordPress.com.
Can I make money from a free WordPress blog?
Absolutely! As I mentioned above you can put affiliate product links from a number of affiliate programs in your free WordPress blog.
You can also advertise your own products and services as well. You can even write content to attract free, organic Google SEO traffic that’s related to your business on your free WordPress blog.
By creating relevant content for your free WordPress blog that’s related to your business, you will attract visitors who are interested in topics related directly or indirectly to the services that you offer.
Perhaps you have an offline business and you want to attract local clientele, for example.
You can easily put up a free WordPress blog and simply write about your area of expertise in relation to your offline business.
Is WordPress free?
WordPress, the Content Management System or CMS, is free.
You can also find free WordPress themes and plugins on WordPress.org.
You can even get a free WordPress blog hosted on WordPress.com through their free blog plan.
However, WordPress.com’s other hosting plans, as well as self-hosted WordPress plans from other web hosting providers, are not free.
In addition, if you want a custom domain name for your WordPress blog or site, whether that’s with the free blog plan on WordPress.com or on another paid hosting plan, then you have to buy it.
Custom domain names currently go for between $10 – $15 per year.
Can I make money from WordPress other than ads?
There are various ways to make money from WordPress other than display ads.
As I have mentioned above, you can also make money through affiliate programs.
In addition, there are a variety of ways to make money from WordPress outside of display advertising and affiliate programs.
In fact, I have an entire blog post here, on how to monetize WordPress: “This is how WordPress makes money and how you can too.”.
Does free WordPress have ads? Conclusions.
There you have it. So now you know that a free WordPress blog does have ads on it. But now what?
It’s the reason why WordPress.com can offer free WordPress blogs on their platform.
Unfortunately, the only way to take those ads off of your free WordPress blog or site is to upgrade to one of WordPress.com’s paid plans.
You can also move your entire WordPress website to another web hosting provider and get a self-hosted WordPress plan.
Many times these self-hosting plans from other web hosting providers will come out much cheaper than WordPress.com’s own plans.
In the end, if you just want a free WordPress blog, you’re going to have to put up with the ads.
Although if you want to take your WordPress website to the next level, then you will need to get on some sort of paid hosting plan.
Whether that paid hosting plan is with WordPress.com or another hosting provider is totally up to you of course.
However, by doing so you will have many more options, flexibility and control over your WordPress website. Including the ability to make your WordPress blog ad free.
You can also go in the opposite direction and even make money from display ads, affiliate programs, selling your own products and services, adding a drop-shipping WooCommerce or Shopify store to your WordPress website as well.
In addition to these monetization methods, you can also make money through the WordPress ecosystem itself, by becoming an affiliate for WordPress themes, plugins as well as other WordPress products and services for WordPress websites.
