Can I use Adobe Fonts on my website?

Yes, you can use Adobe Fonts on your website. But only under a few circumstances.

In most cases, in order to use Adobe Fonts on your website, you will normally have to pay for them. Whether that’s to use on your own website or your client’s website. Although there are though one or two situations where you may also use Adobe Fonts for free, which I will also go into more below.

To begin with, here are a few ways you can use Adobe Fonts on your website:

  • You can get a subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud. If you get a subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud, you will have access to all their fonts and use them on as many websites as you like.

However, if you stop your paid subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud all fonts used through that license will revert back to their previous fonts and you will no longer be able to use Adobe Fonts on your website nor on your client’s websites.

In fact, if you are using Adobe Fonts on a client’s website, they will need to also either purchase a Creative Cloud subscription or purchase selected Adobe fonts bought outright for perpetual use from an Adobe reseller.

  • Buying Adobe Fonts. You can buy specific Adobe Fonts from selected resellers and use them on your website in perpetuity. See below.

Therefore, you don’t necessarily need a subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud in order to use Adobe Fonts.

If you are using Adobe Fonts for your client’s website, they will also need to either buy the licensing rights for these fonts that are used on their website from Adobe through their Creative Cloud plans or they can buy selected Adobe Original Fonts from an Adobe reseller to use in perpetuity as well.

  • Adobe also has free fonts that you can use. To find Adobe Fonts that are free to use, you should visit the Adobe Font Page on Adobe.com.

What is an Adobe Font?

Adobe Fonts are any fonts that you find on Adobe.com or through Adobe’s Creative Cloud as well as Photoshop.

Adobe Fonts partners with many top leading type foundries and pulls together thousands of fonts for their clients to use.

These partners have licensing agreements with Adobe to make their fonts available through Adobe’s interface to Adobe’s clients for use.

Are Adobe Fonts copyrighted?

For all intents and purposes, yes, Adobe Fonts are copyrighted.

You would need to have permission in order to use Adobe Fonts on your website by either purchasing an Adobe subscription to Creative Cloud, purchasing specific Adobe Fonts and their licenses for use from resellers or you may be able to download free Adobe Fonts through photoshop.

Are all Adobe Fonts free for commercial use?

Adobe does not distinguish between particular usage rights for their fonts.

As long as the fonts are either part of their Creative Cloud subscription service, the fonts are bought outright or they are free Adobe Fonts, you can use them in any way you like.

Adobe does not have a type of “commercial use” or “restrictions on commercial use” for their fonts.

For more information on Adobe Font licensing check out their FAQs here: Font Licensing FAQ.

Can I use any Adobe Font for my website’s logo?

If you have a subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud or you have purchased the rights to use particular Adobe Fonts through Adobe resellers, then you can use them for your website’s logo.

How do I get free Fonts on Adobe?

To get free fonts on Adobe is to go through Photoshop. If you have Photoshop, then you will have access to many free Adobe Fonts.

You can also access some original Adobe Fonts and use them for free through Adobe’s open source fonts here:

The source files for all of these fonts are available on GitHub.

How much does an Adobe Font license cost?

The easiest way to get an Adobe Font license would be to go through their Creative Cloud plans. Here is a link to Adobe’s Creative Cloud plans for current license costs.

However, you can also buy individual fonts and get perpetual disc top licenses as well as extending extended licensing from these Adobe resellers:

How many Adobe Fonts can I activate?

If you have a Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, you can activate as many Adobe Fonts as you like. You have an unlimited choice of font options that you can activate.

Is there a free version of Adobe?

There are free versions of Adobe. However, these are mostly pirated pieces of Adobe’s software.

I would never advise you to get any pirated software whatsoever, regardless of how much money it may save you. Why? Because there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

Many free software packages that you can download from the internet may contain viruses that can cause all kinds of havoc on your computer to say the least.

Also pirated versions of Adobe do not receive all the updates that software usually receives from their manufacturers.

In addition, just because you get a pirated version of Adobe, does not mean you can use their fonts for free.

Any use of Adobe’s Fonts without a licensing agreement, whether that is a paid subscription or the purchase of an Adobe Font is strictly prohibited.

Using Adobe Fonts on your website, conclusions.

You can use Adobe Fonts not only on your own website, but on those of your clients.

However, you can only use Adobe Fonts legally by purchasing one of Adobe Fonts subscription plans through their Creative Cloud option.

You can also purchase available Adobe Font originals from the resellers I had listed above.

Please remember, that unless you are purchasing a perpetual desktop license for an Adobe Font, you can only use Adobe Fonts on your website as long as you have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription or again, if you purchase a perpetual desktop license for Adobe Font through one of their resellers.

You can also use available and free Adobe Fonts if you have Photoshop, which is also an Adobe company.

In fact, you can even download them directly from Photoshop into your Photoshop Editor.

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of using Adobe Fonts, then your best bet is to go with either Google Fonts or any number of Font Foundries that allow free commercial use of their fonts. There are various ones you can find on the internet.
