Can I use AdSense on WordPress?

Yes, you can use AdSense on WordPress and it’s easy to do too!. Simply sign up to Google Adsense using your Google Account and fill out an application form.

If you already have an AdSense account, just give Google AdSense the URL of your website you wish to monetize and inject the code into your WordPress website.

It’s that simple!

How can I use AdSense on WordPress?

First, you’ll need to connect your website to your Google AdSense account. The easiest way to do this is by using the Site Kit for WordPress by Google plugin. There are also a number of other WordPress plugins that will help you add AdSense to your WordPress website as well.

AdSense is one of the easiest and most popular ways to monetize your WordPress site. And while you can use a plugin like Site Kit for WordPress by Google plugin to automate the process, you can also add AdSense to WordPress manually. Here’s how:

  1. Create an account with AdSense and generate your ad code.
  2. Open up your WordPress dashboard and go to Appearance> Widgets. Find the Text widget and drag it into your sidebar.
  3. Paste your Adsense code into the widget and save your changes.
  4. That’s it! Now you should see ads on your WordPress site.

However, there are WordPress websites where you cannot use AdSense on.

In the rest of this post, I will go over the situations in which you can and cannot use AdSense on a WordPress website.

I will also go through some AdSense alternatives for your WordPress website as well, including how to monetize a free WordPress blog.

Can I use AdSense on a free WordPress blog or site?

Unfortunately, if you decide to get a WordPress blog or website on WordPress.com’s free blog plan, you will not be able to place AdSense on that free WordPress blog.

In fact, WordPress.com can place their own ads on your website if you have a WordPress.com free blog plan. Why?

Well, someone has to pay for that free hosting that you’re getting with that free WordPress blog.

Therefore, if you’re not going to pay for it, then WordPress.com will get advertisers to pay for it by allowing them free reign to put ads anywhere they choose on your free WordPress blog.

So there is no free lunch or blog after all.

Can I use AdSense on WordPress.com?

Actually, you can use AdSense, but only if you have your WordPress website hosted on WordPress.com’s “Business Plan” or ” WordPress.com VIP” plans.

WordPress.com does have its own ad network called WordAds. These ads you can display on your WordPress.com website, regardless of paid plan. Check out this post if you’re interested in learning more about WordAds and how it compares to AdSense,WordAds vs Google AdSense. Which is best for WordPress.

What are AdSense alternatives for WordPress?

If you are self-hosting your WordPress website, then basically your monetization options are only limited by your imagination and more importantly traffic.

You see, AdSense is just the beginning. I hate to use the word “bottom of the barrel”, but they certainly are the lowest or one of the lowest paid ad display networks on the internet.

There are premium ad networks that you can apply for if you have enough traffic on your WordPress website. These are, but are not limited to:

In fact, those are just the more popular and well-known premium ad networks. There are countless others.

But many do require much higher traffic levels and have stricter entry requirements in order for a WordPress website to qualify.

How do I monetize my WordPress site?

Monetizing your WordPress website with AdSense is just the very beginning.

As I mentioned above, there are other premium ad display networks, but they do require significant amounts of traffic in order to be accepted by them.

Outside of display advertising however, you can monetize your WordPress website by participating in affiliate marketing.

You can basically monetize your content by displaying products or services that are closely related to the content of your article and blog post. The most popular affiliate program is of course, Amazon.com.

However, there are many many other affiliate programs that you can apply for. But, you will need to do your research.

Try to find affiliate programs that are related to the topic of your website and more specifically, the topics related to the subjects you talk about in your website’s posts.

You can also develop your own product or even service on your WordPress website.

You can even use a combination of SEO along with online advertising and social media to promote your product or service.

Using AdSense on WordPress, conclusions.

Using AdSense on WordPress is one of the easiest and most common ways to monetize your WordPress website.

However, you do need to first, open up an AdSense account.

Then you need to have your WordPress website self-hosted on any number of self-hosting providers. Since you can only use AdSense on WordPress.com hosted site with their paid “Business plan” or their ” WordPress.com VIP” plan.

The only other option you have for display advertising on WordPress.com is through their own ad display network called WordAds.

WordPress is open source though. Therefore, you can download WordPress software including themes and plugins either from your hosting provider or from WordPress.org.

So yes, monetizing and using AdSense on WordPress is definitely possible and is actually quite popular. But you need to do it right. You will need to have that WordPress site self-hosted in order to do so.

Finally, using AdSense on WordPress for monetization should be just your first step. As your website’s traffic grows, you may qualify for even more lucrative, premium ad display networks like the ones I had mentioned above.

In addition, you can also monetize your WordPress website by joining any number of affiliate marketing programs and display relevant products in your posts and make a commission for each sale.

There are other ways that you can monetize your website as I have mentioned above too.

But using AdSense on your WordPress website is definitely a good start to making your WordPress website not only a rewarding experience, but a profitable one as well.
