How long does it take to build a WordPress website?

You can easily build a very basic WordPress website as an absolute beginner in a few hours. However, if you want to make changes to the theme’s layout, headers and footers, sizing of your website’s containers, configuring plugins to your site’s specific needs, etc. expect to spend at least a week putting it all together.

You may even need a few extra days on top of that to make a few small changes or a few weeks to make entire website revisions. It all depends on the number of elements and content you want to add as well.

Creating a WordPress site is not hard to do, but how long does it take? That depends on how simple or how complex your site needs are.

The more features you want in your website, the more customizations you want to make, the longer it will probably take.

If you’re a quick study, you can even create a simple WordPress site in an hour or two without a lot of customization. If you want a more complex site, it may take a little longer.

A good place to start estimating how long it’s going to take to build is figuring out how many customization options you plan on adding to your theme, extra features, like a Forum or an eCommerce store, etc.

Here are some questions you should be asking yourself:

How many customizations do you plan on adding?

Do you want to create a unique navigation menu so users can go directly to the desired page by eliminating all other pages?

Or are you planning on having an option for customizing fonts, or changing colors and theme images, customized Headers, Sliders, a Gallery?

Perhaps you want to add an eCommerce Store, if so, how many products, which payment gateways are you going to use etc.?

If you plan on adding extra features, a more customized theme, functionality, etc., then it will take more time building out your WordPress website.

How do I create a WordPress site in 24 hours?

You can create a WordPress website in 24 hours if you are willing to do some legwork.

First, think about how much content you need.

Ideally, your site should have at least five to 10 pages of unique text before you put it up live on the web. However, you can technically start with one page or post, if it helps you create some momentum.

Though, If you want your site up quickly but don’t feel like writing all that content yourself, hire someone on Upwork or Fiverr to write the content for you.

Once your site is up with a few pages of unique content, promote it on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or even Pinterest.

While it’s possible to create a WordPress website in 24 hours, don’t expect it to be of the very highest quality.

How do I build a simple WordPress site?

First, you need to get a domain name and web hosting. Then you can install WordPress on your server.

The domain name is how people find your site on the web. Many Domain Name providers offer .coms for as low as $10/year; some other registrars charge up to $20/year. Your domain name should be easy to remember and relevant to your site.

If you chose to buy a custom domain name, then your custom domain name would be “yourwebsite.com”.

However, if you decide to go with WordPress.com’s Free Blog Plan, hosted on WordPress.com, you’ll be given wordpress.com or .wordpress.com as the ending for your domain name.

After choosing how to get a domain name, you need web hosting with which to put it up on the internet.

There are many options out there that offer different plans, the important thing is how much space your website will need to store files.

More sophisticated sites may need more RAM and bandwidth, while blogs may do well with fewer features. You can get started with many Web Hosts for as little as $3.95/month.*

Then you need to install WordPress. The one-click install function makes it simple to get started, and can create a great place for you to start blogging or showcasing your work.

Once you have done all that, you’ve downloaded WordPress you can start blogging instantly.

If you need more hands-on control over how your site looks, you can always choose to go “self hosted”.

Second, you need to choose a theme. The “Appearance” tab can be found in the left hand menu bar under the tab labeled “WordPress”.

There are two options: installing a free theme from the WordPress theme directory or from a third-party provider, or downloading a “premium” theme from an excellent developer like Tom Usborne’s GeneratePress, my theme of choice.

Does WordPress require coding?

No,  WordPress is a publishing platform that makes it incredibly easy to set up an online presence.

There are thousands of themes and plugins available so even the most non-technical person can get a professional website up and running in no time.

WordPress automatically delivers great web design to everyone with an Internet connection. For free, and with no technical expertise required.

WordPress is simply drag and drop. You don’t need any coding experience or skills to build a WordPress website. WordPress has thousands of themes with great web designs.

Even though no coding experience is necessary if you want to build your own website with WordPress, you can hire someone else to build your WordPress site if you want!

However, WordPress makes it easy for beginners to get started with building websites too.

Does WordPress cost money?

WordPress software itself is free, but there are many other costs associated with running a website. Here are some of them:

It’s possible to install WordPress on a free webhost, but since you will also need domain registration and some type of hosting, the costs can add up quickly.

For example, if you were to register a domain name (such as yourbusiness.com) and host your website at Hostgator, it would cost about $10 USD per month, although they do offer extremely cheap first time packages as well. So you should check them out as well.

If you want a WordPress website created by someone else, that could easily add up to over thousands of dollars.

Though free WordPress hosting does exist, it typically has many restrictions that would prohibit you from running a full-featured website. The best one is offered by WordPress.com’s Free Blog plan.

Should I learn PHP before WordPress?

No, again. You don’t need to learn PHP before WordPress. Some of the most popular plugins on WordPress.org are written in PHP.

However, you don’t need to learn PHP before working with the WordPress CMS platform. This is because there are plenty of ways for beginners to use themes and plugins that save you from learning how to write your own code.

WordPress is a great tool for beginners and it has plenty of built-in functionality to get you started.

It’s easy to begin with, but you will need to learn how to use it if you want your website or blog to be more than just the basic WordPress blog.

The best way to do this is by checking out tutorials, how-to guides, and how other people are using WordPress.
